The Watch Phenomenon

May 20, 2008 | Lucas

People with watches are most peculiar because they don't actually know the time despite checking it. Here's a cool DIY experiment you can do to prove this fascinating point.

  1. Take note of a subject (friend, colleague, family member) wearing a watch.
  2. Wait for the moment where they glance at their watch to check the time.
  3. After they have finished glancing at their watch, wait a few seconds and ask them what time it is.
  4. Most of the time they will actually look at their watch again before telling you the time.

Case Study: T.W.P. @ Tim Hortons

I was at Tim Hortons earlier today (eating a yummy bowl of Chili) with my friend and I noticed that she just checked her watch. Being curious as to what time it was as well, I proceeded to ask. Needless to say, she had to check her watch again before being able to tell me the time!

Cool, eh? I highly encourage you to share your own stories so that together we can gain a better understanding of this widely occurring phenomenon.
